i shouldn't be online because i have tons of work to do but i had to give you some suggestions.
when i went to china i pretty much stayed in the province of suzhou (boonieville i might add) but i got to see shanghai on the weekend. i don't know what the names are in english (the person i went around with only spoke korean) but i'll try my best to describe the places.
1. oriental pearl -- you don't have to go all the way to the top. i think there's a ticket for 256m? it's 70 yuan and the view is just the same because it's divided up into levels. i think the highest you can go is about 120 yuan. make sure you check out the museum on the 1st floor. it's awesome!
2. wytann? -- that's what my friend called it and it's this river where you can see all these buildings. my friend told me that the buildings were all owned by different country companies but eventually the chinese bought off all the buildings. i went to the starbucks along the river and sat there and looked outside (it was really relaxing).
3. aquarium -- i didn't get to go to the aquarium right next to the oriental pearl but one of the workers at my company went and she said it's fantabulous.
i didn't get to travel much cuz i went to shanghai for only 2 days. have fun in china! make sure you don't eat anything weird. i ate something wrong and i was in and out of the restroom all day. oh yeah, there is no tissue paper in the restrooms either. make sure you take your own toilet paper EVERYWHERE and take medicine.
if you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
on last thing!
you have to get a feet massage there!!!! it's so cheap and fantabulous. okay, bye.
there's more to beijing than just the wall. there's the imperial palace as well, which is extremely worthwhile.
you might want to stay in shanghai as well, and make your way to Suzhou. it's right next to it and is known as asia's venice.
it's really beautiful.
I lived in Beijing for a summer and loved it! Recommendations: summer palace, temple of heaven and the forbidden city. make sure you clear a day out for the great wall -- it's a ways outside of beijing and it takes all day to explore it. you can also pass by the ming tombs on the way to/fr the wall... it's so historically rich!
If you want a more relaxed day, you may also want to walk through the hutong. This is by Houhai (a big manmade lake) -- you can rent bikes to ride aroudn the lake and there's a lot of little restaurants and shops there. There's also a good number of bars and clubs around Houhai at night.
If you want to go out, sanlitun has a lot of casual pubs and bars, often frequented by young ppl and backpackers. Houhai also has a lot of dance clubs. Club babyface has dance rooms w/ different music and clubs mix and vix are good hip hop clubs=
have fun!
beijing is amazing - there are just too many sites! My fave was definately walking up great wall of china..the summer palace is quite nice too. I loved loved shanghai! the building architecture is unbelievable..just take time to walk around. And don't forget the cheap and awesome FOOD!!! you'll have a blast! can't wait to see the pics =)
